Why I don't publish a fixed SEO price
SEO cost in India varies by an order of magnitude depending on scope. A 20-page local services site needs a fundamentally different engagement than a 5,000-SKU e-commerce store competing against Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra. Any consultant who quotes a flat rate before understanding your site is either inexperienced or selling a templated package that won't move the needle.
The 5 factors that drive SEO cost
- Site size. More URLs means more on-page work, more internal-link maintenance, and a bigger technical audit.
- Keyword competitiveness. Ranking for "personal injury lawyer Mumbai" is a different sport than "best paneer recipe".
- Content production volume. Done-for-you content (research, writing, editing, publishing) adds real hours.
- Technical debt. A clean Next.js or static site is cheaper to maintain than a legacy WordPress build with custom plugins.
- Reporting cadence. Monthly vs weekly executive reporting changes time spent on dashboards.
Common SEO pricing models in India
- Monthly retainer - the standard for ongoing programs. Covers strategy, implementation, content and reporting.
- One-time audit - good for businesses that want direction without committing to a retainer.
- Project-based - useful for migrations, replatforms, or one-off content sprints.
- Hourly consulting - rare; usually a sign the consultant doesn't want accountability for outcomes.
What "cheap SEO" actually buys you
Sub-₹10,000/month "SEO packages" overwhelmingly fund three things: low-quality link drops on PBNs, templated 500-word blog posts, and a vanity-keyword report. None of these move qualified traffic in 2026. Worse, the link patterns often invite manual actions that take months to recover from.
What a real SEO retainer covers
- Technical SEO maintenance and Core Web Vitals work
- On-page upgrades to existing pages
- Net-new content production (or close coordination with your writer)
- Internal-link architecture and cannibalisation control
- Structured data and rich-result eligibility
- Local SEO where applicable (GBP, citations, reviews)
- Monthly performance review and roadmap update
SEO cost vs Google Ads cost
The two have different cost structures. Google Ads has a management fee plus the ad spend you pay Google directly per click. SEO has a management fee plus content and dev hours - no per-click bill, but a longer payback window. See the Google Ads vs SEO comparison for the trade-off.
How to get a real quote
I scope SEO engagements after a short discovery call: site walkthrough, current Search Console data, competitive context, and your commercial goals. Then I send a written proposal with scope, deliverables and price - no hidden line items.
